Vladimir Putin signs off the state policy on Nuclear Deterrence

Jun 10: Recently Vladimir Putin, President of Russia approved and signed off the executive order on the Basic Principles of State Policy of the Russian Federation on Nuclear Deterrence which contains the principal conditions in which Russia would resort to the use of Nuclear Weapons. The document also provides the analysis of military threats that Russia currently faces and the number of instruments designed to handle them.

The policy is claimed to be defensive in nature and is aimed at maintaining the potential of the nuclear force at a level sufficient for nuclear deterrence and guarantees protection of national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state and deterrence of a potential adversary from aggression against the Russian Federation and/or its allies.

While Russia has been targeted for possible rigging in the US Elections and the Ukrainian Crisis, the Expiration of the 2010 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty may have put Vladimir Putin in tight spot and signoff the policy. The Russia and US relations being very low, a few days ago the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly also appealed to the world condemning the act to diminish the role of the Soviet Union in World War II by other forces.
