This old USSR Region region has always been less developed nations due to the influence of communism. With the exception of Russia these countries are still considered as developing nations. The countries in this region have less economic dynamism and have adverse demographic trends in the region. The region is constrained by unemployment, inadequate infrastructure and over-dependence of foreign funding and challenging business environment due to communist influence.

India has always been an all-weather friend to the countries of this region due to its historical relationship with the USSR during the Cold War period.

Indian Relations with the Region

The relations between India and USSR go back to the cold war era and Russia has been an All-weather friend of India ever since. After the disintegration of the USSR, India has had relationships and treaties with each of the CIS countries and has been supporting many of the building trade relations with India. A lot of delegations from these countries come to India exploring opportunities with India and to increase the Bi-lateral trade

Though there is a language problem in these countries with Russian being dominating language, with the participation of various business delegations both into India as well as from India has provided opportunities for businesses to generate value in bilateral trade with this region.

However India being famous for Ayurveda and Wellness, Many people from these cold countries prefer to travel to India to get rejuvenated and cure many ailments that have been a challenge in the general medicine.

Due to the language barrier not many students travel between India and the region for studies. However earlier due to the India – Russia Relations many people used to travel to Russia towards Medical and Technical studies, but once the opportunities for higher studies increased in the English speaking countries such as the US, the UK and Australia, the number of students traveling to this region decreased.
