India and Afghanistan discuss economic and security cooperation

April 28: Minister of External Affairs GOI, Dr. S Jaishankar had a video conference interaction with Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs for Afghanistan, Mr. Mohammad Haneef Atmar to discuss the issues of mutual interests including that pertaining to the economic and security co-operation between India and Afghanistan.

Dr. S. Jaishankar congratulated Minister Atmar after he assumed office as foreign minister and assure him of India’s support and interest towards the Afghan Peace Process and end the war in Afghanistan. He also assured to support towards economic cooperation to strengthen Afghanistan.

Minister Atmar thanked fro the support that the Indian government has provided to Afghanistan in the last 2 decades in the ongoing peace efforts. He specifically emphasized on the importance of bilateral cooperation on economic and security aspects and the ongoing peace efforts. He also lauded India’s support towards a humanitarian ceasefire, immediate beginning of the intra Afghan talks and exchange of prisoners between the Taliban and Afghan government.
