Saudi Arabia to give women more legal rights

May 24: The Ministry of Justice of Saudi Arabia intends to grant women more legal rights, especially with regard to marriage contracts. The move empowers women in the Kingdom and increases the opportunities the women get to choose their life partners.

Experts said that the new regulations also allows women to be present during drafting of the marriage contracts to examine them and give their consent. However, the guardian does not have the right to force her to be physically there. She has full freedom either to be present or not.
